Most of us surf for the moment but every now and then, it’s cool to get some footage of yourself surfing. Whether it’s by photo or video, here is a list of friendly + experienced locals that can photograph or film your surf session in San Diego.
Surf Photography San Diego
To begin, here are a few local San Diego surf photographers. Some of them I have personally used. Others, I have simply seen their work, or they have been recommended.
San Diego Surf Photos – These guys will capture your best surf moments on photo all over San Diego. You can easily book directly on their website. Private sessions are a bit pricier. However, they are often out shooting at local beaches in San Diego and you might be lucky enough to be captured. These individual photos are available online for $5/each.
SwellCo – SwellCo is a unique service because it allows surf photographers all over the nation to upload their photos across a shared network. There’s a good chance if you search for a surf spot by name after a day you surfed it, you could find photos of you uploaded. You can pay a low fee to purchase the photo and remove the watermark while the surf photographer earns a small commission.

Coco Photos – John Cocuzza is a San Diego surf photographer. Through his website, you can set up a photo session starting at $150 for an individual. Photo sessions are for 90 minutes.
Ironstring – For a more high end surf photo experience in San Diego, contact Ironstring to plan your surf session or surf trip.

SdSurfSand – Kyle captures rad drone surfing footage. Direct message him on his Instagram channel to get in touch.
Droneduded – Another San Diego drone operator. I guess surf footage is just better from above!
Citypro.app – Somewhat similar to what SwellCo does for surf photography in San Diego. Citypro is an app for connecting with qualified surf videographers near you. Download the app to browse local videographers and book your session.
Surfline – When all else fails, login to Surfline to check your session. By timing when you were out surfing with Surfline’s ‘rewind’ sessions, you can usually find yourself. Bring a watch with so you can make a mental note of the time of your wave!
